MacBook Keyboard & Trackpad Repair
Sticky keys, keys that type themselves, or a trackpad that won’t click — the butterfly-keyboard era made these famous. We fix both generations properly, and we’ll tell you when a simple fix beats a full top-case swap.
Does this sound like your Mac?
- Keys feel sticky, gritty, or mushy
- Keys repeat on their own or type doubles
- Individual keys or whole rows are dead
- Letters worn off, keycaps loose or chipped
- Keyboard backlight patchy under certain keys
- Trackpad won’t click, clicks weakly, or feels stuck
- Cursor jumps or drags unpredictably
- Trackpad cracked or rising (often pushed up by a swollen battery)
What we do
We start with the free diagnostic to identify the real culprit — a single sticky key, a worn trackpad, or a deeper top-case issue. Minor problems often need only cleaning or individual key service, which costs a fraction of an assembly.
When a full assembly is needed, here’s the honest version: on many MacBooks the keyboard, top case, and battery ship as one part — so a keyboard job usually returns your Mac with a new battery too. We quote it either way, with no surprise line items.
Butterfly keyboards (2015–2019)Apple ran service programs covering some of these. Check your serial number on Apple’s coverage page — if it qualifies, we’ll tell you to use it. If not, we can quote a top-case replacement that typically includes a new battery.
Pricing
Keyboard & trackpad pricing
The free diagnostic determines which fix you actually need.
| Service | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Individual keycap / key service | from $49 |
| Trackpad replacement | $119 – $199 |
| Top case + keyboard, unibody models (2010–2016) | $249 – $399 |
| Butterfly top case + keyboard (2015–2019, includes new battery) | $299 – $499 |
Parts and labor included. Where the top-case assembly contains the battery, you get a new battery as part of the same quoted price — it’s the part, not an upsell.
Keyboard & trackpad FAQ
Does a keyboard replacement really include a new battery?
On most unibody and butterfly MacBooks, yes — the keyboard, aluminum top case, and battery arrive from the factory as a single assembly. We quote the whole assembly honestly, so you know exactly what you’re getting.
Can you fix just one or two keys?
Often, yes — especially on pre-2015 models and for worn keycaps. The free diagnostic tells us whether single-key service will hold up or an assembly replacement is the smarter spend.
My trackpad cracked after a battery issue — related?
Usually, yes. A swelling battery presses upward on the trackpad from below. That’s why we check battery condition on every trackpad job — and quote the battery if it’s the root cause, rather than replacing a trackpad that will crack again.
